Process for the manufacture of carbon sheet for an electrode

A method of making a single carbon sheet for an electrode is disclosed. The method includes mixing (205) activated carbon then adding a dispersion comprising a PTFE binder and water to the activated carbon to form a mixture. The mixture is feed into to a jet mill so that fibrillating (210) of the PTFE binder occurs. The mixture is then feed into a roll mill to form a single carbon sheet in a single pass. An electrode and energy storage device using such an electrode is also disclosed. The single carbon sheet has a thickness of greater than 1mm and no organic solvents are utilised in its manufacture according to the method.
