The present invention relates to an energy storage system having a power outage compensation function which stores late night time power to supply stored power during a peak load period for load leveling as an alternative for power shortage, and uses stored energy to supply stable power to a load end when a voltage drop or a power outage occurs in a system. The energy storage system having a power outage compensation function according to the present invention comprises: a bypass switch (17) disposed between a system power source and a load end; an inverter (13) connected in parallel with the bypass switch and the load end to convert AC power into DC power to charge or discharge a battery; and a controller (30) to control the inverter to make a current flowing through the bypass switch zero when a power outage occurs in the system. The energy storage system having a power outage compensation function according to the present invention controls the inverter to make the current flowing through the bypass switch zero when a power outage occurs in the system to quickly shut off the bypass switch, and thus stored power can be quickly supplied to the load end.
