The present invention relates to a sailing assistant device and a method thereof. The sailing assistant device comprises: a filming unit filming a floating matter or a rock existing in the sea by being located in front of a vessel; an output unit outputting an image filmed on the filming unit to divide the image into a first sector, a second sector, and a third sector and checking the image; a sensing unit sensing a size and a location of a subject displayed in a sector of the output unit by reflecting light; and a steering unit steering the vessel when the subject sensed in the sensing unit enters from the first sector to the second sector, and the size thereof changed.
