Disclosed in the embodiments of the present invention are a spectrum division method and device, the embodiments of the present invention relate to the technical field of communications and can solve the problem that a system cannot fully utilize the spectrum resource, and the downlink data transmission rate and the system performance are limited due to using the existing uplink and downlink spectrum division method. The method in the present invention includes: estimating a current ratio of the transmission rate of first class data to the transmission rate of second class data according to the spectrum boundary; when the current ratio is lower than a first target ratio, adjusting the boundary between a first spectrum and a second spectrum to increase the transmission rate of the first class data; determining the updated first spectrum and the updated second spectrum according to the adjusted spectrum boundary. The present invention is applied to digital subscriber line access multiplexers.
