This gas sensor is provided with a housing, an insulator, a inner cover, and an outer cover. An inside peripheral hole of the housing comprises a back end-side hole portion and a front end-side hole portion, the boundary section of which has a stepped portion formed to a sloping shape. The inner cover has an expanded-diameter portion facing the stepped portion. The insulator has a flange portion for clamping the expanded-diameter portion between itself and the stepped portion. A cylindrical portion of the inner cover and a cylindrical portion of the outer cover are welded to one another by a localized welded portion. The welded portion is formed to a shape that protrudes from the outside periphery of the outer cover (52), such that contact with the front end-side hole portion (211) is possible. Excessive heating of the welded portion of the inner cover and the outer cover is prevented thereby, and the welded portion is protected from heat. |
