PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image defects caused by a lubricant applied on a developing roller at the shipment of a cartridge.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier that carries a developer image, a developer carrier that carries a developer to supply a developer to the image carrier, and a developer supply member that supplies the developer to the developer carrier. The developer carrier has a lubricant applied at least on a part of the surface; the lubricant is charged in the same polarity as the developer; and the absolute value of the charge amount per unit mass of the lubricant is larger than the absolute value of the charge amount per unit mass of the developer. The image forming apparatus applies a potential difference between the developer supply member and the developer carrier before image formation, and performs a first sequence to form an electric field in a direction where the lubricant is directed from the developer supply member to the developer carrier. |
