<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain activity of a metal catalyst and to prevent lowering of the yield of gamma-butyrolactone, when producing gamma-butyrolactone by hydrogenation of succinic acids.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) by hydrogenation of succinic acids by using a transition metal catalyst, wherein a dicarboxylic acid having a metal-coordinating functional group, such as maleic acid, fumaric acid, and malic acid, is made to coexist in the reaction mixture at the time of hydrogenation reaction, so that its concentration becomes 1 mass ppm or more and less than 10000 mass ppm. Hereby, there is provided a process which can prevent lowering of catalyst activity and fluctuation of GBL yield, and enables GBL to be obtained in a high yield and stably.</p> |
