In an aspect of the disclosure, a method and an apparatus are provided for calibrating a current comparator circuit associated with a DAC element. The apparatus receives an output of a current comparator module, determines calibration data using a finite state machine (FSM) based on the output of the current comparator module, and reduces an offset current at an input of the current comparator module based on the calibration data from the FSM.

1. An apparatus for calibrating a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) element, comprising:
a current comparator module coupled to the DAC element, the current comparator module configured to calibrate a current source corresponding to the DAC element; and a calibration module coupled to the current comparator module and configured to reduce an offset current of the current comparator module, the calibration module comprising:
a finite state machine (FSM) configured to receive feedback from the current comparator module and to generate calibration data based on the feedback, anda comparator DAC configured to reduce an offset current of the current comparator module based on the calibration data from the FSM.
