METHOD FOR PRODUCING DERIVATIVE OF &bgr;-HYDROXYCARBOXYLIC ACID

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an α,&bgr;-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing an α,&bgr;-unsaturated carboxylic acid which comprises: (a) preparing a fermented bouillon containing &bgr;-hydroxycarboxylic acid; (b) forming a solution containing the &bgr;-hydroxycarboxylic acid from the fermented bouillon; (c) converting the &bgr;-hydroxycarboxylic acid into a &bgr;-hydroxycarboxylic acid ester; and (d) evaporating a solution containing the &bgr;-hydroxycarboxylic acid ester in the presence of a dehydration catalyst to convert the &bgr;-hydroxycarboxylic acid ester into an α,&bgr;-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester in vapor phase reaction.
