Provided are a data transmission method and apparatus. The embodiments of the present invention relate to the technical field of communications and are used for solving the problem of an unbalanced network load. The method comprises a terminal determining a resource configuration from resource configurations supported thereby as the resource configuration used by the terminal; the resource configurations supported by the terminal comprising a first resource configuration and a second resource configuration; the terminal using the determined resource configuration to send signalling or data to a communication node; the communication node receiving the signalling or data sent by the terminal; the communication node determining a resource configuration used by the terminal for sending the signalling or data; and if the resource configuration is the first resource configuration, then determining that the terminal is a first terminal; or if the resource configuration is the second resource configuration, then determining that the terminal is a second terminal. The data transmission method and apparatus provided in the embodiments of the present invention can be applied to a network data transmission device having a relatively high requirement for transmission efficiency.
