Producing naphthenic process oils (5) having a carbon distribution of carbon atoms in aromatic structures (CA) to carbon atoms in naphthenic structures (CN) to carbon atoms in paraffin chain structures (CP) of 0-30 wt.% to 45-65 wt.% to 20-55 wt.%, determined according to ASTM D 2140, comprises hydrogenating a process oil educt comprising a content of polycyclic aromatic compounds of at least 3 wt.%, determined according to IP 346, using a metal catalyst with hydrogen and producing a naphthenic process oil with a CN-content of greater than 45 wt.%, determined according to ASTM D 2140. Producing naphthenic process oils (5) having a carbon distribution of carbon atoms in aromatic structures (CA) to carbon atoms in naphthenic structures (CN) to carbon atoms in paraffin chain structures (CP) of 0-30 wt.% to 45-65 wt.% to 20-55 wt.%, determined according to ASTM D 2140, and exhibit a content of polycyclic aromatics (PCA) of less than 3 wt.% according to IP 346, comprises hydrogenating a process oil educt comprising a content of polycyclic aromatic compounds of at least 3 wt.%, determined according to IP 346, and a proportion of naphthenic hydrocarbon atoms CN of = 25 wt.%, using a metal catalyst with hydrogen at 200-400[deg] C and a pressure of 80-250 bar and producing a naphthenic process oil with a CN-content of greater than 45 wt.%, determined according to ASTM D 2140. |
