Provided is an electric cleaner (11) capable of easily and reliably causing a side brush (19) that protrudes from an outer circumferential surface of a main case (12) to retreat when same has come in contact with an obstacle. The electric cleaner (11) has a main case (12) comprising the outer circumferential surface (34) formed along either an arc or a polygon. The electric cleaner (11) has a drive wheel capable of moving the main case (12) over a surface to be cleaned. The electric cleaner (11) has the side brush (19) provided in the main case (12) so as to be movable in a prescribed direction and having an amount of protrusion from the outer circumferential surface (34) of the main case (12) that changes as a result of the movement. The side brush (19) comprises a brush main body (41) that is movable so as to retreat to the outer circumferential surface (34) side of the main case (12) as a result of external force in a direction intersecting the prescribed direction. The side brush (19) comprises a cleaning body (43) rotatably provided in the brush main body (41) and which cleans the surface to be cleaned, by rotating. |
