This heater control device for an exhaust gas sensor (17) which is provided to an exhaust gas passage (12) of an internal combustion engine (11), and which is provided with a sensor element (19) having a plurality of cells (20, 21, 22), and a heater (37) for heating the sensor element (19), is provided with a heater current-conduction control unit (18) for implementing temperature-increase control in which the impedance of one cell (20) to be measured among the plurality of cells (20, 21, 22) is detected, the current-conduction control value of the heater (37) is set to a temperature-increase current-conduction control value until the impedance of the cell (20) to be measured reaches a target impedance, and the temperature of the sensor element (19) is increased. The heater current-conduction control unit (18) continues the temperature-increase control even after the impedance of the cell (20) to be measured reaches the target impedance, until an extended period of time required for the temperature of another cell (22) other than the cell (20) to be measured to reach an active temperature has elapsed. |
