A protection method for a superconducting coil according to the present invention comprises: a step of applying a current outputted from a power source to a superconducting coil; a step of connecting a protection capacitor to the superconducting coil in parallel when the superconducting coil is charged with the circuit current; a step of monitoring a voltage across both ends of the superconducting coil; and a step of blocking a connection between the power source and the superconducting coil when the voltage across both ends exceeds a prescribed reference value. The step of blocking the connection of the superconducting coil comprises: a step of determining whether the superconducting coil is transitioned to normal conduction if the voltage across both ends exceeds the prescribed reference value; and a step of blocking the connection between the power source and the superconducting coil if the superconducting coil is determined to be transitioned to the normal conduction.
