This LCD device (100) is provided with: a liquid crystal layer (42) retained between a pair of substrates (10, 30), the liquid crystal layer including one or several types of positive-type liquid crystal compounds having positive dielectric anisotropy, and one or several types of negative-type liquid crystal compounds having negative dielectric anisotropy, the total content of the positive-type liquid crystal compounds being less than the total content of the negative-type liquid crystal compounds; pixel electrodes (24) having a plurality of linear sections and slits provided to a pair of substrates; and a common electrode (22) insulated from the pixel electrodes, whereby positive polarity and negative polarity pixel voltages, switched at a frequency of less 60 Hz, are applied to the liquid crystal layer by the pixel electrodes and the common electrode. |
