A printing method and a printing device, whereby an overcoat layer is formed using a more appropriate method during inkjet printing on to a printing surface on a base material being a printing target. The printing method uses a color ink head (202) being a colored ink head, a clear ink head (204), and an ultraviolet irradiation device (206) and includes: a colored printing step in which a printed image is printed, using colored ink, on at least part of an area of the printing surface on the base material (50); a non-colored area clear printing step in which an area is printed using UV clear ink, said area including at least a non-colored area being an area upon which ink droplets were not discharged during the colored printing step; and an overcoat layer formation step in which an overcoat layer, being a layer covering the printed image in UV clear ink, is formed on an area covering at least the printed image printed in the colored printing step.
