PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active material for nonaqueous secondary battery negative electrodes, which is less in gas generation owing to decomposition of a nonaqueous electrolyte, and useful in manufacturing a nonaqueous secondary battery so arranged that the rise in resistance is suppressed.SOLUTION: An active material for nonaqueous secondary battery negative electrodes comprises: an active material (A) which allows lithium ions to go thereinto and desorb therefrom; a layer compound (B); and an organic compound (C). In the active material for nonaqueous secondary battery negative electrodes, the solubility of the organic compound (C) in dimethyl carbonate according to a particular measurement method is 5 mass% or less. A nonaqueous secondary battery comprises the active material for nonaqueous secondary battery negative electrodes.
