A method for producing fatty acid aklyl ester alkoxylate by adding alkylene oxide to a fatty acid akyl ester represented by general formula (I), having a step wherein 5-25 mol of alkylene oxide are added to 1 mol of fatty acid aklyl ester in the presence of an alkoxylation catalyst obtained by reacting an alkaline earth metal compound (B) and at least one acid (C) selected from a group consisting of sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and phosphoric acid in a liquid dispersion medium (A), and 0.05 to 0.20 mol of at least one alcohol selected from a group consisting of a monovalent alcohol and a divalent alcohol with respect to 1kg of fatty acid alkyl ester, and wherein the molar ratio (C/B) of the acid (C) to the alkali earth metal compound (B) is 0.8 or more but less than 1.
