[Class 75 (iv).] A traffic warning lamp adapted to be mounted on a street refuge or island comprises a vertical housing containing a plurality of reflectors 9-12 which are arranged louvre fashion with their inner edges extending upwardly towards a source of light 7 which is adapted to transmit light partly directly in a substantially vertical direction and partly indirectly from the reflectors in a substantially horizontal direction, auxiliary reflecting means 17 being arranged behind the reflectors for redirecting light on to one or more of the reflectors. The reflector 9 may be illuminated by light reflected from additional auxiliary reflecting means 18. The housing may comprise a cast-iron cylindrical base 1 provided with a door 2 and with an extension 3 for insertion in the ground, a steel channel-shaped back 4, and a cast-iron cylindrical head 5 having a detachable cap and fitted at the front with red or amber coloured signal glass 8. The reflectors 9-12 are formed as portions of figures of revolution and are of bell or like shape, the reflectors 9-11 being supported at their lower edges by hoops 13-15 secured to the back 4, the reflector 12 being supported by the base 1 and having a part 16 projecting rearwardly to support the reflecting means 17. The reflectors 9-12 may be white enamelled and the reflecting means 17, 18 may be of polished metal. |
