Process for converting distillation by-products

A method of producing a feedstock for an off-site anaerobic digestion process comprising the steps of: (i) providing a source of pot ale from an alcohol production process (distillation); (ii) subsequently removing a volume of solid content from the pot ale to produce a substantially solid-free liquid filtrate; and (iii) subsequently removing a volume of inorganic solubles from said filtrate. Preferably the volume of inorganic solubles are removed by adding an alkali such as sodium hydroxide to facilitate precipitation. Also claimed is a method of producing renewable energy by transporting the resulting feedstock to an off-site location and processing the feedstock within an anaerobic digester.
