<p>A method for setting up a current sensor having an internal resistance which is dependent on the current which is to be measured, wherein the internal resistance is set to a setpoint voltage drop as part of a regulation of an actual voltage drop across the current sensor, including calibration or checking the plausibility of operation of the current sensor based on a characteristic curve, in which the current which is to be measured is compared to a variable which is dependent on the internal resistance or to the internal resistance.</p>
