<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a very compact seating type exercise device allowing a user to effectively get twisting exercise. <P>SOLUTION: The seating type exercise device 1 includes: a seat part 3 on which the user M can be seated; a twisting mechanism 11, disposed below the seat part 3, for oscillating the seat part 3 around a vertical shaft core in a lateral direction; a driving mechanism 40 for driving the twisting mechanism 11; and a placing stand 6 on which the twisting mechanism 11 and the driving mechanism 40 are set. The twisting mechanism 11 includes a rotation shaft 12 to be rotated with the driving force of the driving mechanism 40, and a converting part 14 for converting the rotation of the rotation shaft 12 to oscillation motion. The converting part 14 has a support arm member 13 which projects so as to intersect the shaft center of the rotation shaft 12, supports the seat part 3 from below, and transmits the oscillation motion converted by the converting part 14 to the seat part 3.
