Magnetic locking apparatus

A magnetic lock and corresponding magnetic engaging mount/keeper. A lock casing 10 houses a bolt 12 sprung 14 biased to a retracted position, the bolt having an engaging portion 126 for extension from the casing and a connecting portion; the connecting portion 122 of the bolt including magnets 13. The engaging mount/keeper 40 includes two magnets 46 adjacent an aperture 442 for the bolt (a magnet on both sides of the aperture). When the door is closed the magnetic attraction automatically extends the bolt. The bolt can be retracted by a handle. A cylinder lock may be included to drive a locking mechanism 30 to lock the bolt in the extended position with a lost motion connection with the handle to allow the handle to be rotated and not retract the bolt; the locking mechanism 30 may include a lock lever 34 which blocks retraction of the bolt.
