The present invention relates to a device and a method for detecting a fire on a ship or an offshore plant. Specifically, a light beam is emitted towards a target on the ship or the offshore plant to photograph a scattered optical signal to generate an image. The generated image is analyzed in various ways to detect an abnormal situation such as a fire.
