An ink for ink-jet recording apparatuses comprising: water, a pigment dispersion containing a pigment and a resin as a polymeric dispersant, a penetrating agent, and a surfactant consisting of a compound represented by the following general formula (I), wherein the penetrating agent contains an alkane diol having 8 or 9 carbon atoms, and the alkane diol is at least one compound selected from the group consisting of 1,2-octane diol, 2-butyl-2-ethyl-1,3-propane diol, and 2,4-diethyl-1,5-pentane diol, wherein the resin is a styrene-methacrylic acid-methacrylic acid alkyl ester-acrylic acid alkyl ester copolymer, wherein the ink comprises triethylene glycol monobutyl ether, wherein content of the alkane diol is in the range of 0.3% by mass to 1.0% by mass relative to the total mass of ink, and wherein content of the surfactant is in the range of 0.05% by mass to 1.0% by mass relative to the total mass of ink, wherein, in the general formula (I), R1 is CAH2A+1, R2 is CBH2B+1, A and B are each an integer of at least 1, A+B is an integer of from 6 to 10, -E-O— is —CH2CH2—O—, —P—O— is —CH2CH(CH3)—O—, n and m are each a positive number, n+m is 5 to 12, n is greater than m, and a repeated sequence consisting (-E-O—) and (—P—O—) may be random or blocks.
