[Class 111] Rotary scrapers for sludge and settlement tanks are driven from a rigid rotating ring or rail mounted on or supported by the outer circular or other wall of the tank. Rotary scrapers 31, 33, Fig. 1, sweeping respectively over the wall and bottom of a settling tank are carried by arms 30 depending from a ring 23, which rotates on rollers 24 on the weirwall 25 of the tank and is driven by means of a pinion 27, or pawl engaging a rack 26 attached to the ring. The ring is steadied by positioning rollers 35. As shown in Fig. 3 the scrapers are partially supported from a feed-box 21 which is pivoted to rotate upon a central supply pipe 20 and is connected to the ring 23 by spokes 29. In this case the ring is driven by a cable passing round the ring and round driving pulleys 43 and tensionadjusting pulleys 45. With this form of drive the ring 23 may be polygonal instead of circular. A board for collecting surface scum and a gangway from the wall to the centre may be associated with the rotary parts. The gangway may be arranged as a scum collector. The ring may be driven by frictional engagement with a driven roller.</p> |
