The present invention refers to a method of dispersing carbon nanotubes in a thermosetting resin. The method comprises: (a) contacting the carbon nanotubes with a dispersant in a solvent to form a dispersion mixture, wherein the dispersant is a graft polymer comprising a polymeric backbone and a side chain grafted to the polymeric backbone; and (b) adding the thermosetting resin to the dispersion solution to form a resin blend. The present invention also refers to a composition used for the method. |

1. A method of dispersing carbon nanotubes in a thermosetting resin, comprising:
(a) contacting the carbon nanotubes with a dispersant in a solvent to form a dispersion mixture, wherein the dispersant is a graft polymer comprising a polymeric backbone and at least one side chain grafted to the polymeric backbone, wherein the polymeric backbone is a polyimide backbone having at least one aromatic ring or a polybenzimidazole backbone having at least one aromatic ring, and wherein the at least one side chain comprises a side chain having a phenolic structure and at least one hydroxyl group, a side chain having a bisphenolic structure and at least one hydroxyl group, or a combination thereof; and (b) adding the thermosetting resin to the dispersion mixture to form a resin blend, wherein the at least one hydroxyl group present in the at least one side chain of the dispersant covalently bonds to the thermosetting resin. |
