Disclosed is a method for adaptive channel quality indicator (CQI) selection. The method comprises: determining equivalent signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values corresponding to different modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) according to a relationship between an equivalent SNR and an average signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) value, an SINR variance and an adjustment factor; constructing a mapping relationship table of equivalent SNR values and CQIs; determining an equivalent average SNR value of each code word within a specified bandwidth of a downlink subframe; and acquiring a corresponding CQI value according to the equivalent average SNR value and the mapping relationship table. Also disclosed is an apparatus for adaptive CQI selection. Also disclosed is a computer storage medium.
