[Classes 2 (ii) and 2 (iii)] [Also in Group VIII] Retainers for use in electric accumulators comprise matted or felted filaments of a vinyl resin, the filaments preferably being fused together at their points of crossing and at the edges of the retainer. In an apparatus, whereby the felts may be made, a solution of a polymerized vinyl compound in the vessel 4 is forced (by means of compressed air injected at the pipe 7) through a nozzle 5. Compressed air jets pass through nozzles 10 surrounding the nozzle 5 serving to evaporate the solvent and to break the fibre into small filaments. The filaments collect on the moving band 14 in a matted sheet, the sheet being passed through heated rollers 20, 21 and wound for storage on to roll 23. The sheet is cut for use by means of heated shears. |
