Disclosed are a method and apparatus for implementing cross-board channel protection, relating to the technical field of optical communications. The method includes the following steps: by the cascading of multiple boards in each network element of two adjacent network elements, a cross-board port aggregation group is formed at the line side ports of the two network elements; each board of the two network elements detects the transmission quality and/or connection state of the line side ports in real time; when one board of one network element detects that the transmission quality and/or connection state of the board line side ports is abnormal, the board forwards, via other cascading boards and the cross-board port aggregation group, the service from a client to the corresponding board of the other network element. In the present invention, the bandwidths of all the line side ports can be shared, and the utilization of the line side bandwidth can be increased. |
