An apparatus for conducting a measurement in a multi-well assay test plate is described. The apparatus includes a subassembly capable of supporting and translating the test plate to one or more components of the apparatus. An auxiliary plate subassembly is also included that has a plurality of auxiliary wells comprising dry assay reagents for use in an assay with the test plate.
