PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor optical transceiver that does not require an electrical regulator, is suitable for downsizing and integration, and is capable of high-speed operation.SOLUTION: The optical transceiver includes: an input-side optical coupler and an output-side optical coupler; an interferometer, having two arms provided between the input-side optical coupler and the output-side optical coupler, through which light propagates, the interferometer imparting a bias phase difference of approximately &pgr;/2+2n&pgr; (n is an integer) between lights propagating through the two arms; an optical phase modulator for turning the phase of inputted continuous light into an optical signal that is modulated in accordance with an inputted electrical signal; and an optical delay unit for causing a difference to occur to a time in which the optical signal modulated by the optical phase modulator reaches the output-side optical coupler, the optical phase modulator being operated by changing the carrier density in a silicon optical waveguide. |
