PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control system capable of accurately and rapidly detecting abnormality of an engine.SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control system includes an exhaust emission control device, an oxidation catalyst temperature sensor or a filter temperature sensor, and an ECU. The exhaust emission control device is disposed in an exhaust passage of an engine having an injector. The oxidation catalyst temperature sensor or the like detects a purifying device temperature which is a temperature in an inside of the exhaust emission control device. The ECU executes control based on the purifying device temperature detected by the oxidation catalyst temperature sensor or the like. The ECU executes control for determining excessive temperature rise based on a determination condition that determination time is shorter as a determination temperature is higher. The ECU executes temperature lowering control for lowering the purifying device temperature when excessive temperature rise is determined.
