The present invention is related to antimicrobial and anti-tumor activities of the leaves extract and active fractions from the Gymnosperma glutinosum plant. Said extract inhibits the growth, in liquid and solid media, of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Candida albicans (ATCC 32354), Mycobacterium smegmatis, enterohemorragic (HEC) E.coli O157:H7 (ATCC 43895), non-pathogenic E. coli (ATCC 25922) (NPEC) and Vibrio cholerae in an optimum environment for the growth thereof. The inventive extract also includes an anti-tumor effect against the growth of the murine lymphoma L5178Y-R, the cell death mechanism being by apoptosis. The present extract is toxic free for normal cells such as macrophages. |
