The present invention enables a portable terminal to be operated using an edge part of a case of the portable terminal by means of a perpendicular movement of an operating body with respect to the case. A portable terminal (1) is equipped with a moving direction determination section (52a) which includes one edge part of a case of an input device and which determines a moving direction of an operating body along a substantially perpendicular direction to one surface of the case which includes the edge part, said movement being made at the edge part or in the vicinity of a side surface of the input device, on the basis of a temporal change pattern of a signal which indicates detection of the operating body.
