A heat exchanger is provided with tubes (2) and a header tank (5) which communicates with the tubes (2). The header tank (5) has a core plate (51) to which the tubes (2) are joined and tank body (52) which is affixed to the core plate (51). The core plate (51) has a tube joining surface (511) into which the tubes (2) are inserted and joined and a seal surface (512) on which elastically deformable packing (53) is disposed. A thin-walled section (55) in which stress acting on the core plate (51) concentrates is formed on the side of the core plate (51), which is closer to the tube joining surface (511) than the seal surface (512). As a result of this configuration, heat strain occurring in the portions where the header tank (5) and the tubes (2) are joined can be reduced even if the width of the header tank (5) is reduced. |
