Provided is a protective element achieving a lower resistance in a pathway in which an electrode is led out, thereby improving the rating for the entirety of the element, and capable of handling large current applications. The element comprises: an insulation base plate (11); a heat-generating body (12) and first and second electrodes (13, 14) layered on the insulation base plate (11); a heat-generating body led-out electrode (15) electrically connected to the heat-generating body (12); a meltable conductor (16) layered over the first and second electrodes (13, 14) and the heat-generating body led-out electrode (15), serving as a current pathway between the first and second electrodes (13, 14); and a cover member (17) covering the surface of the insulation base plate (11). Formed in the cover member (17) are a first external connection terminal (21) connected to the first electrode (13)and exposed to the exterior, and a second external connection terminal (22) connected to the second electrode (14) and exposed to the exterior. |
