The present invention is applicable to the technical field of mobile communications and provides a method and apparatus for data transmission between mobile terminals. The method comprises: detecting the distance between a first infrared sensor of a first mobile terminal and a second infrared sensor of a second mobile terminal; the first mobile terminal initiating a specified wireless communication function if the distance between the first infrared sensor and the second infrared sensor is smaller than a preset threshold; the first mobile terminal sending a notification to the second mobile terminal to rename the second mobile terminal as a specified name and initiate the specified wireless communication function; the first mobile terminal pairing with the second mobile terminal if detecting the second mobile terminal corresponding to the specified name; and the first mobile terminal transmitting data to the second mobile terminal through the specified wireless communication function. The present invention greatly improves the operating efficiency between mobile terminals during data transmission.
