The invention seeks to provide a reliable and precise measurement of tyre tread wear by proposing to use ultrawide band pulses known as UWB pulses and to analyze the signature obtained as these pulses are reflected back off the tread in order to deduce tread wear therefrom. Tyre tread wear monitoring equipment (100) according to the invention comprises a control unit (110) dedicated to signal control and data processing, this control unit (110) being coupled to an ultra wide band or UWB pulse signal generator (120), itself coupled to an UWB pulse transmission antenna (140) for transmitting the incident UWB pulses, and a UWB pulse receiving antenna (150) for receiving the UWB pulses reflected off at least one tyre tread interface, the receiving antenna (150) being coupled to a pulse signal receiver (180) itself coupled to said control unit (110).
