<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the combustion state by considering the position and the opening/closing timing of a fuel injection hole, in a fuel injection device of an internal combustion engine having a subsequent-dripping prevention unit of fuel. <P>SOLUTION: This fuel injection device includes a spool valve 44A at the tip of a needle valve 26. The spool valve 44A includes large-diameter cylindrical portions 442 and 444 that are in slidably contact with the inner surface of a housing 14, and a small-diameter portion 446 located between them. A fuel supply hole 440 is punched axially in the center of the spool valve 44, and four through-holes 448 are radially punched in the small-diameter portion 446. Injection hole rows A and B are disposed while being divided in the axial direction of the housing 14. When the spool valve 44A goes up together with a needle valve 26, the injection hole row A opens prior to the injection hole row B, and closes after the injection hole row B.
