<p>A reciprocating piston engine wherein the movement of a piston within the combustion chamber creates vortices in the fluid within the chamber and wherein the orientation of the vortices is more normal to the axis of movement of the piston than parallel to the axis of movement of the piston. The vortices may be created by a device for attachment to the crown of a piston or by the configuration of the crown of the piston. The vortices may be created by a plurality of vanes extending outwardly from the center of the piston to the periphery thereof.</p> |
