Craniostat (20) for an extraoral dental radiographic apparatus (1) comprising an upper portion (21) connected to the lower portion (22) through two rods (23); the upper part in its turn comprising a crossbeam (104) and rests for patient's temples, wherein the rests for patient's temples are formed by two arches (107) articulated with said crossbeam (104); said arches (107) lean on patient's temple, blocking means of said arches being provided with control means of said blocking means, e.g. under the form of oscillating levers (135); the block occurs through shape friction generated by said blocking means at the moment of activation through said control levers. Moreover, a method of use of the craniostat is described.
