The present invention is directed to a bypass valve assembly (34) having a valve housing with an inlet port, outlet port (62), and bypass port (60) all formed within the valve housing. A valve member (36) is operably connected to the valve housing and includes a first valve plate (46) and second valve plate (50) that face in substantially opposite directions from each other. The first valve plate (46) articulates to form a tight barrier with the outlet port (62) when the valve member (36) is in a first position, and the second valve plate (50) articulates to form a tight barrier with the bypass port (60) when the valve member is in a second position.
