An antenna array comprises a substrate 1 with a ground plane 2 and multiple adjacent antenna elements, where the antenna elements are at one end region of the substrate 1, where there is no ground plane, and the ground plane 2 provides an edge 14 facing the antennas and where the antennas and ground plane 2 are coplanar or are in two or more parallel planes. The antenna array may include respective matching circuitry and at least one signal port for each antenna element. The antenna device may be configured with four or five feed points, and may drive from four up to ten signal ports. The feed points 8, 13, 19, 20 may be located towards the central region of the ground plane edge 14. A reconfigurable antenna is mentioned. Certain antenna elements may be configured such that they are electromagnetically coupled so as to act as a band-stop filter. Certain antenna elements are configured to operate at the same frequency. Resonant elements may be located between antenna elements to improve the signal isolation between the said elements. The compact antenna array may be used in reconfigurable multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) or diversity communication systems in mobile phone handsets, tablets, wireless routers or other radio communication devices. |
