<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cultivating mushrooms which includes a simple and effective sterilizing step. <P>SOLUTION: The method for cultivating the mushrooms includes a step of sterilizing a cultivation substrate material by applying 20 to 120 kV high voltage electric discharge to the cultivation substrate. The impression of the high voltage discharge on the cultivation substrate is performed by placing the cultivation substrate between a discharging electrode for the high voltage and a counter electrode, and applying the high voltage between the discharge electrode and the counter electrode to generate streamer discharge and spark discharge.
