The present invention discloses a system for providing an internet-based search mechanism to enable an anonymous user to search for a resource provider. The system comprises a user device 3 hosting an internet-based portal such that a user can submit an anonymous request for information relating directly to a resource. A secure server 1 is also provided which hosts a database containing resource provider information, communicates with the user device via a communications network and alerts at least a first resource 6a. The secure server also initiates an anonymous communication channel 4 between at least the first resource provider and the user via the internet-based portal and the communications network. In particular a method involves initiating the anonymous communication channel by the first resource provider submitting a URL to the user, and if this URL does not contain information relating directly to the resource, closing the anonymous communication channel and alerting a second resource provider 6b. If the URL does contain information relating directly to the resource, the anonymous request for information is deleted from the portal. |
