<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the chipping of a cutting edge of a die without deteriorating wear resistance more than that of a conventionally used cutter when initially using the cutter which employs a hard material in the die having the cutting edge and an anvil for receiving the cutting edge and cuts a plate-like workpiece interposed between them. <P>SOLUTION: The anvil 11 has a structure of two or more layers. An anvil surface 5 is formed into a hard layer with a Young's modulus of Ec(GPa), and a thickness Tc(mm) of the hard layer is specified in a range of 60≤Ec×Tc≤2,160.
