The image area on the recording medium corresponds to a plurality of axial heating spans on the fixing rotary body.

A fixing device temperature control method, comprising: selectively energizing, via a fixing temperature controller, at least one of a plurality of heaters according to an image area on a recording medium where a toner image is formed on the recording medium, the image area corresponding to a plurality of axial heating spans on a fixing rotary body; detecting, via a temperature detector, a temperature of a pressing rotary body; changing, via the fixing temperature controller, a target temperature of the fixing rotary body based on the detected temperature of the pressing rotary body so that a temperature of the image area is substantially constant among a plurality of recording media conveyed through a fixing nip formed between the fixing rotary body and the pressing rotary body continuously; and controlling, via the fixing temperature controller, at least one of the energized plurality of heaters during a print job for forming the toner image on the plurality of recording media continuously so as to maintain the image area on the recording medium at a substantially constant temperature when the recording medium is discharged from the fixing nip.
