Provided is a ground improvement method requiring a lower cost by evaluating the confining effect of the ground soil appropriately and arranging improvement bodies rationally. A ground improvement method comprises the step of creating improvement bodies in the ground by arranging such improvement bodies (1) as confining deformation of the ground when the ground begins to be deformed by receiving a load.  A variation in stress of the ground soil of when deformation is confined by the improvement bodies (1) is determined, and the variation of at least any one of the strength or rigidity of the ground caused by variation in stress is evaluated as the confining effect of the ground by the improvement bodies (1).  Subsequently, the shape and arrangement of the improvement bodies (1) are determined such that the ground can attain the confining effect.  Variation in stress is evaluated as the variation of at least any one of the direct stress or shearing stress produced as a reaction to confinement by the improvement bodies (1) when the ground receives a load.
