A securing mechanism for a space access device, comprising: a base comprising a longitudinal axis and an outer surface, said securing mechanism further comprising a plurality of projecting members disposed circumferentially around said base, said plurality of elongated members comprising at least 10 of said plurality of elongated members, each of said plurality of elongated members having a maximum length-thickness ratio in the range of 2:1-3:1, each of said plurality of projecting members further comprising a proximal and distal end, said proximal ends of said plurality of projecting members being connected to said outer surface of said base and projecting outwardly therefrom at an angle relative to said base longitudinal axis in the range of 45°-65°, said distal ends of said plurality of projecting members defining a plurality of contact points that are configured to contact a surface of an opening when disposed on an outer surface of a space access device that is inserted in said opening, each of said plurality of projecting members being further configured to apply a pressure to said opening surface when said space access device is disposed in said opening less than approximately 10000 kPa.
